In the process of training we ask the horses to hold and maintain Codified Positions for a long time. Yoga asks the same of us - and makes relatable what we ask of the horse. Yoga prepares riders with conditioning, mental preparation, and understanding the depth of what we ask the horse to do.

Discover the possibilities through lecture, physical practice and dialogue between Sue and the participants.
  • Reduce stress, lower blood pressure and slow the heart rate (reducing performance anxiety) through learning.
  • Learn a short yoga practice to stretch and rejuvenate the body. No previous yoga experience necessary.
  • Find your source of enthusiasm and vitality and learn how to access this power.
  • Learn breakdown and breakthrough technology to become more effective in producing the results you want in your life.
Taking the Yoga lessons to the horse opens the conversation on understanding and application of the training aids. Riders will appreciate how the body and breathing prepared in Yoga becomes an essential tool for communicating with the horse. Discussion and coaching will be offered on the training of the horse.
  • You are the teacher of your horse.
  • Training Aids: legs, seat, hands, voice; "what, when, and why"
  • Training Aids: degrees of application; "where, how, and how much"
  • Understand the self discipline you must have in order to be an effective teacher - knowledgeable, strong, flexible, no drama
  • Training champion horses and riders requires preserving practice over a long period delivered in a thoughtful progression built on academic knowledge, then into the experience of the training arena
Riding sessions of The Clinic series with Sue Cumming-Schultz will feature World and National Champion equestrians, and those in the serious pursuit of riding excellence. There are a few openings for rider participants. Those wishing to ride should be able to demonstrate the following proficiencies with their horse: walk, trot, canter with correct transitions between the gaits; yielding the body of the horse to the aids of the rider with particular skills in lateral work (shoulder in, haunches in, half pass). The most important trait in an applicant is a sincere desire for coaching and a willingness to submit to the coaching process.

The quality of the horses and riders participating in the clinic provides an excellent learning through observation opportunity for those auditing The Clinic Series.
